History of Zion Parai Church
Before the appearance of the church surrounded by natural beauty, the landowners are surrounded by adults who do not want to identify the laces and humans without any paths and even they could not walk.
The Holy work begins
This place is known as Alamparai during the period (1967-1972) when Rev. R.N.Thurai raj worked as a church pastor During that period Late Mr.J.Ponnayan took inspiration step and began to preach about the Jesus and made them to reach the real God. Because of the efforts of Late Mr.J.Ponnayan to set up the Zion Parai church, On July 28,1991,Marthandam Indigenous missionary society was started by the inquirer’s pastor Rev. S.Dhurai raj . At fist it was stented under the tamarind tree which is near to the pastor’s home Mr.Raja V.Lalwin(Lalas) was hired as the first clerical staff. The congregation is the first living memory Mr.A.Thankayan, Mr.A.Anpeiyan and Mr.A. Rajaiyan who came front to afford their land.
During 22/8/1991, Devicode pastor Rev.A.Selvamani who prayed and laid the foundation temporarily. In 06/10/1991, inquiry pastor dedicated this temporary church under the head of Devicode church pastor. At the dedication of the church , Marthandam suthesa missionary head Mr.Dr.D.Jssac Joseph raj and secretary Doctor A. Yaenos and some of the people who participated in that.
At the dedication of the church, 22 persons were baptized and joined the lond’s flock. The church which was made up of thatched of was totally burned the night of 20/05/1995. Again, in the same place a new thatched roof church was implemented which was bigger than the old one on 7/1/1996 the foundation for the current church was laid by Rev.Y.Robinson. Thus the church which was functioning under the Marthandam suthese missionery organisation, was entrusted to the Kanyakumari diocese by the grace of God on 1/2/2009. Mr.S. On the basis of the above approval 25 years of excellence of silver Jubilee 29/7/2016 and 30/7/2016 special dedication, the day of the church was observed on the last Sunday 31/7/2016 since the 26 th church day on 28/7/2016. Prayer was laid on 12/3/2014 at Rs.15,00,000 and opened by the Archdiocese on 3/1/2015.
Church people’s involvement in the development of church:
Mr.C.Stanley kochappa as the church’s Sunday school secretary,Mrs.L.Ambrose, Mrs.Usha Jeyanthy and Mrs.Maebel latha as the auditor, former secretary of christion devotion committee Mr.Peter and in present Mrs. Sulochana sunder singh, women’s committee former secretary Mrs.Yesunesam teacher and in present Mrs. Dr.L.P.S.Poonkodi. And for cboir former associator Mr.George, Mr.Stanley Kochappa, Mr.V.Uster Nayagam, Mr.V.Lesley victor,Mr.Prabatha Rassmi, selvan J.M.Jenish were working as the teachers of choir. Mrs. Yesu Nesam teacher and Mrs. Suuirtha George are working as the organizer of the choir.Church’s former helper Mr.Nyanamani, Mr.A.Bathrose, who worked about 25 years and also Mr.T.Sasikumaran, Mrs.Leela thanga raj and present selvin.S.Sree Kumar are working. Church’s land documents were also taken from the register office and it was preserved till now.
